How to Style Image Captions
Image caption styling controls how the text under your images looks, so every caption in your book stays consistent. Add a caption to an image (see Add Images), then open its style panel to customize it.
Customizing Your Image Captions
The caption style panel has four tabs: Text, Spacing, Border, and Colors.
Text
- Font. Choose the typeface for your caption, or leave it on Inherit from Body to match your body text.
- Size. Set the size in points.
- Line Spacing. Set the space between lines of a multi-line caption.
- Weight. Set how heavy the text is, and whether it is italic.
- Alignment. Full control over how the caption sits under the image, including an Inherit option that follows the surrounding text.
Spacing
- Around Caption. The space outside the caption, on all four sides. Link the sides together, link them in pairs (Top / Bottom, Left / Right), or set each on its own.
- Maximum Width. The widest the caption can grow, as a percentage of the image’s width. Set it to 100% to match the image.
Border
- Enable Borders. Turn the border on or off.
- Thickness. Set the border width on each side.
- Spacing. Inside Caption sets the gap between the caption text and its border. (When Colors is on, the Colors tab’s Inside Caption spacing takes over this gap instead.)
- Line Style. Choose Solid, Dashed, or Dotted, and set the Roundness of the corners.
The border’s color comes from your book’s Print Page Colors border setting, so every framed element shares one color.
Colors
Turn on Enable Colors, then set:
- Text Color. The color of the caption text. Leave it on Inherit from Body to keep your normal text color.
- Background. The color of the band behind the caption. Leave it on Transparent for no band.
- Spacing. Inside Caption sets the breathing room between the caption text and the edge of the colored band.
Using Presets
Save and reuse your caption styles with presets, so every image in your book is captioned the same way.
