Save and Reuse Your Own Book Styles
Once you’ve made a book look exactly right, save that look as a style of your own. My Styles is your personal style library: apply a saved style to any book, keep it updated as your taste evolves, and share it as a file with other authors.
Where to Find It
Click New Style in the header bar, then switch to the My Styles tab (next to Premade Styles). Your saved styles appear as cards, each showing a miniature chapter opening rendered in that style, when it was last updated, and how many presets and images it carries.
The first time you visit, Lacuna asks you to pick a library folder (Set Folder…). Every style you save or import lands there as a .lacunastyles file, so you can back the folder up or keep it in sync between computers.
Save Your Current Book as a Style
- Open New Style → My Styles and click New.
- Choose Save Current Book as Style. (Choose Create from Another Book… to pull the look from a different project file instead.)
- Name your style, like
RomanceorField Guide. - Pick what the style carries under Style contents, then click Save Style.
Choosing What a Style Carries
The Style contents picker starts with quick choices: Everything, Settings only, Presets only, or None. You can then fine-tune with individual checkboxes:
- Settings covers your project settings (Drop Caps, First Paragraph, Heading Image Settings, Book-Wide Formatting, Book Part Settings, Book Volume Settings, Brand Colors) and print settings (Trim Size, Page Layout, Body Typography, Headers & Footers, Page Margins & Chapter Layout, Page Numbering, Footnotes, Page Colors).
- Presets lists every preset in your book, grouped by folder, so a style can carry your blockquote, callout, and table designs too.
Anything you leave unchecked stays out of the style, and books you apply the style to keep their own version of it.
Apply a Saved Style to Another Book
- Open the book you want to restyle.
- Click New Style, then the My Styles tab.
- Click a style card to preview it live on your book. Click it again to deselect and revert.
- Click Apply Style to Book.
Keep a Style Up to Date
Right-click a style card (or click its menu button) for:
- Rename. Give the style a new name.
- Update from This Book… Replace the checked elements of the saved style with this book’s current versions. Your book is not changed, only the saved style. Updating is permanent for the checked elements, so the dialog offers Export a Copy First if you want a safety net.
- Export… Save a copy of the
.lacunastylesfile anywhere, ready to send to someone. - Delete… Removes the style file. It goes to your system Trash, so you can recover it if you change your mind.
Share Styles With Other Authors
A style is a single .lacunastyles file. Send one to a friend, and they bring it in through New → Import Style…. If they already have a style with the same contents, Lacuna notices and asks whether to Skip the import or Create Duplicate.
Finding Styles in a Big Library
Use the search box (Search your styles) to filter by name, or even by the fonts a style uses. Sort by Recent to see what you touched last, or A–Z for an alphabetical list.
