How to Style Your Drop Caps
A drop cap is the large opening letter at the start of a section. The first letter is enlarged and dropped into the paragraph, spanning several lines.
The drop cap panel has two tabs: Text and Spacing.
Text
- Font. The typeface for the drop cap letter.
- Weight. How heavy the letter is.
- Size. The size of the letter.
- Color. A custom color for the letter.
Spacing
- Letter Height. How many lines of text the drop cap spans. This is what makes the letter taller or shorter against the paragraph, not a spacing measurement.
- Spacing around letter. The space on each side of the letter. Link all four sides together, or unlink them to set Top & Bottom and Left & Right on their own.
How do I add more than one drop cap per section?
By default, a drop cap appears only on the first paragraph of a section. You can add one to any other paragraph from that paragraph’s own menu:
- Click into the paragraph you want to begin with a drop cap
- Click the gear icon beside that paragraph to open its menu
- Turn on Force Drop Cap
The paragraph gets a drop cap in your drop cap styling, and its first-line indent is removed for you. Repeat on as many paragraphs as you like, so a single section can hold several drop caps.
