How to Use the Image Gallery
The image gallery is your central hub for every image in your project. Search, set alt text, see exactly where each image is used, and organize large libraries with folders. Looking to upload, place, and align images inside your manuscript? See add images to your book.
Folders
If you’re dealing with a lot of images, you can group them into folders to keep your library organized.
- Create folders — Right-click in the gallery to create a new folder. Folders can be nested.
- Move images — Right-click one or more images and select Move To, then pick the destination folder.
Searching and Filtering
Use the search bar to find images by file name or alt text.
You can also narrow your results with filters:
- All Images — Show every image in your project
- Has Alt Text — Show only images with alt text set
- Missing Alt Text — Show only images that still need alt text
- Used — Show images currently used in your project
- Unused — Show images not currently placed in any section

Image Details
Click any image to open its details panel. From here you can see:
- File Name — The original file name of the image
- Dimensions — The width and height of the image
- File Size — How much space the image takes up
- Alt Text — Set or edit the alt text for accessibility
- Usages — See everywhere the image appears in your project, organized by section, element, and preset
To style the caption typography for every image consistently, see image captions.
Deleting Images
You can delete any image from your project through the image details panel. If the image is currently in use, Lacuna will show you exactly where it appears before you confirm. Deleting an in-use image will remove it from all sections, full-page images, and any other locations where it’s placed.
