How to Use Call-Out Boxes
Call-out boxes are highlighted content blocks used to draw attention to important information, tips, warnings, or any content that should stand out from the main text.
How to Create a Call-Out Box
- Select the content you want to highlight
- Click the call-out box icon in your editor toolbar
- View your content with borders applied
What Can Go Inside a Call-Out Box
Call-out boxes aren’t limited to plain text. You can place most elements inside them to add borders around:
- Blockquotes: Give quoted text extra visual emphasis
- Images: Frame photos or illustrations with a border
- Handwriting: Highlight letters, notes, or diary entries
This flexibility lets you create bordered sections for any content that needs to stand out.
Customizing Your Call-Out Box
Select a call-out box to open its style panel. It has three tabs: Border, Styling, and Spacing.
Border
- Thickness. The border width on each side.
- Line Style. Solid, Dashed, or Dotted.
- Radius. How rounded the corners are.
Styling
- Colors. A Background color and a Text Color, each from a color picker (leave on Default to use your theme color).
- Line Height. The space between lines of text inside the box.
Spacing
- Around Callout Box. The space on all four sides, outside the box.
- Inside Callout Box. The padding between the border and the content.
- Trim Top Spacing on Page Start. When the box lands at the top of a new page in print, removes the space above it so it sits flush with the top margin. (Print only.)
Using Presets
You can save and reuse call-out box styles with presets. This makes it easy to apply consistent border styles across all call-out boxes in your book.
Finding Call-Out Boxes
Use the Elements tab in the section sidebar to find all call-out boxes in your book and jump directly to any of them.
