How to Customize Section Subtitles

Section subtitle styling gives you full control over how your subtitles appear throughout your book.

Customizing Your Section Subtitle

When you select a section subtitle, its style panel opens. The panel has four tabs: Text, Colors, Underline, and Position & Spacing.

Text

  • Font. Choose the typeface for your subtitle.
  • Size. Set the size in points.
  • Letter Spacing. Tighten or loosen the space between letters.
  • Weight. Set how heavy the text is, and whether it is italic.
  • Transform. Change the letter case: None, CAPS, lower, or Capitalize.

Colors

The Colors tab gives your subtitle its own text color and a colored band behind it.

Turn on Enable Colors, then set:

  • Text Color. The color of the subtitle text. Leave it on Inherit from Body to keep your normal text color.
  • Background Color. The color of the band behind the subtitle. Leave it on Transparent for no band.
  • Width. Full Width stretches the band across the whole content width. Around Text shrinks the band to hug just the subtitle, like a highlighter.
  • Spacing Around Text. The breathing room inside the band, between the subtitle and the band’s edges.

Underline

Turn on Show Underline to add a decorative line under the subtitle, then set:

  • Style. Choose Solid, Dashed, or Dotted.
  • Thickness. Set the line’s thickness.
  • Width Mode. Text Width matches the line to the subtitle text. Custom lets you set an exact Width as a percentage.
  • Distance from Text. The gap between the subtitle and the line.

Position & Spacing

  • Alignment. Full control over how the subtitle sits on the page.
  • Spacing around Subtitle. The space on all four sides of the subtitle. Link all four together, link them in pairs, or set each side on its own.

Using Presets

Save and reuse your subtitle styles with presets, so every chapter stays consistent.
