How to Style the First Paragraph

First paragraph styling lets you customize how the opening paragraph of each section appears. You can use first paragraph styling on any section, but by default only chapter types have these settings applied.

No Indentation On First Paragraph

Enable this option to remove the indent from the first paragraph of your sections. This should be enabled when you are using drop caps, since the drop cap itself provides visual separation.

First Line Styling

Style the first line of your opening paragraph differently from the rest of the text.

  • Text Style — Choose between Normal or Small Caps
  • Font Size — Select from XS, S, M, L, or XL

Apply First Line Styling After

Automatically apply the same first line styling to paragraphs that follow specific elements. This lets you create consistent styling throughout your sections.

  • Ornamental Breaks — Apply first line styling to paragraphs that follow ornamental breaks. For example, if you want all text after an ornamental break to start with small caps, enable this option.
  • Subheadings (H2-H6) — Apply first line styling to paragraphs that follow subheadings.
