How to Style Your Drop Caps

A drop cap is a large decorative letter at the beginning of a section. The first letter of your text is enlarged and “dropped” into the paragraph, spanning multiple lines.

Typography

Control the appearance of your drop cap letter:

  • Font — Choose from curated content fonts perfect for drop caps
  • Size — Set the exact size for your drop cap
  • Weight — Adjust the thickness of the letter

Spacing

Fine-tune the position of your drop cap with independent spacing controls:

  • Left Spacing — Control the space to the left of your drop cap
  • Right Spacing — Control the space between your drop cap and the following text
  • Top Spacing — Control the space above your drop cap
  • Bottom Spacing — Control the space below your drop cap

Character Spacing

Character spacing adjusts the vertical space that your drop cap letter occupies. This works similarly to line height for regular text. Increasing character spacing gives your drop cap more vertical room, while decreasing it brings the surrounding text closer.
