How to Customize Heading Spacing

Heading spacing controls the entire boundary box from the top of your section to where your content begins. The gray area in the editor shows you this complete spacing region at a glance.

What Heading Spacing Encompasses

The heading spacing area includes everything above your main content:

  • Title — The main section title
  • Subtitle — The section subtitle
  • Heading image — Any decorative image at the top of your section

You can add spacing above your title and below your heading image to control exactly how much room this area takes up.

Top and Bottom Control

Heading spacing gives you independent control over the top and bottom margins:

  • Top spacing — Controls the space above your title, creating distance from the top of the page
  • Bottom spacing — Controls the space below your heading image (or subtitle if no image), separating the heading area from your content

All spacing values are adjustable in pixels using sliders and dropdowns, giving you precise control over your layout.

Using Presets

With presets, you can apply different heading spacing to any section in your book. This lets you customize every single section’s heading spacing however you want. For example, your front matter sections might use more spacious heading areas, while your main content sections use tighter spacing.
