Footnotes

Control every aspect of how footnotes appear in your print-ready PDFs, from the note text styling to the reference markers and footnote area presentation.

Note Styling

Configure the appearance of footnote text at the bottom of pages:

  • Font Family - Choose to use your body font or select a custom font family
  • Font Size - Adjust the size of footnote text (default: 0.90em or 9.0pt)
  • Line Spacing - Control spacing between lines in multi-line footnotes (default: 1.10× or 9.9pt)
  • Text Indent - Set the indent for wrapped footnote lines (default: 0.00em)
  • Margin Bottom - Add spacing between individual footnotes (default: 0.25em or 3px)

Reference Styling

Configure the superscript footnote number that appears in your main text:

  • Reference Size - Adjust the size of the superscript number (default: 0.80em or 8.0pt)
  • Marker Suffix - Add punctuation after the footnote number:
    • . (period)
    • ) (closing parenthesis)
    • none (just the number)

Example: With a period suffix, footnote 1 appears as 1. instead of just 1

Footnote Area

Configure the border and spacing for the footnote section at the bottom of pages:

  • Border Style - Choose how the separator line appears:
    • Solid
    • Dashed
    • Dotted
  • Border Width - Set the thickness of the separator line (default: 1px)
  • Padding - Control spacing around the footnote area (default: 0.60em or 8px)
  • Top Margin - Set space between your main text and the footnote section

Professional Formatting

These settings let you match footnote styling to your book’s overall design. Academic books often use smaller font sizes and minimal spacing, while narrative fiction might use more generous spacing and decorative borders.
