Device-Specific Sections
Control which sections appear in your EPUB versus print output by setting device types. This lets you customize your book for different reading formats.
Why Use Device-Specific Sections
Different formats support different features. Device-specific sections let you optimize for each format:
- Print-only features - Background images, image bleeds, and print-specific layouts
- EPUB-only features - Interactive links that don’t translate well to print
- Format-optimized content - Different approaches for digital versus physical reading
Setting Device Type
To make a section format-specific:
- Right-click any section in the navigation menu
- Select Set Device Type
- Choose EPUB only, print only, or both
The previewer and generation process automatically ignore sections that don’t match the selected output format.
Visual Indicators
The navigation menu displays icons to identify device-specific sections:
- Phone icon - Section appears only in EPUB
- Book icon - Section appears only in print
- No icon - Section appears in both formats
This visual system lets you quickly understand your book’s structure across different formats.
