Reorder Book Sections

After converting your sections to proper types, you may need to reorder them to match your book’s structure. The sidebar acts as your book’s spine—drag sections to instantly reorganize your entire manuscript.

Basic Arrangement

Drag and drop any section to reorder your book:

1. Click and hold any section in the sidebar
2. Drag to the new position
3. Drop to place it

Changes appear immediately in your previewer and exported book.

Chapter Numbering

After moving chapters, use Edit → Number Chapters to update titles like “Chapter One” to match their new positions.

Selection Methods

Single Section

Click and drag any individual section to move it.

Perfect for quick adjustments like moving a dedication page or reordering appendixes.

Multiple Sections

Select multiple sections for bulk reorganization:

• Range: Shift+click to select consecutive sections
• Individual: Ctrl+click (or Cmd+click on Mac) for specific sections

Then drag any selected section to move the entire group together.

Quick Positioning

Right-click selected sections for instant placement:

• Move to Top - Beginning of book
• Move to Bottom - End of book

Ideal for moving back matter sections or reorganizing front matter.

Common Scenarios

Fix Front Matter Order

Move title page, copyright, dedication, and table of contents into proper sequence.

Reorganize Chapters

Reorder story chapters or group related content together using Book Parts.

Position Back Matter

Place appendixes, about the author, and bibliography after your main content.

Insert Images

Position full-page images between chapters or sections.

Auto-Scroll for Long Books

When dragging sections in lengthy manuscripts:

• Drag to top/bottom edges to auto-scroll the sidebar
• Continue dragging until you reach the target position
• Drop when the destination is visible
